To my sensitive heart in the childfood, nothing was so unhappy and dreadful
as an incident I lost my pet animals.
I raised as many as ten rabbits in a hut then.
And there lived in nearby wood a dozen of savage homeless dogs that might
do harm to poultries.
0ne day a couple of them circled around our property as if scouting soldiers
conducted an investigation of the layout of the attacking target.
As I sensed a danger, I patched up the slots of my rabbit hut in precaution.
At one stormy night I heard many dogs barking and howling outside and I knew they
finally assaulted. But I and the rest of my family could do nothing.
It was horrible to hear many dogs growling in the stormy night.
Next morning found the devastation in my rabbit hut. My dear rabbits were
annihilated
On a later day, we captured their leader, a veteran bitch dog. Instead of
death penalty, we decided to keep her.
It was ironical that the criminal became a fine guardian to our property. She
acted as if to make up for the evil she and her associates inflicted to
my rabbit hut.
私が子供だった頃のこと、 私のペット達を失った出来事ほど不幸で怖いものはありませんでした。
当時 私は小屋で１０匹ばかりの ウサギ を飼っていました。
そして近くの森には、 家畜に危害を加えるおそれのある 野犬達 が住んでいたのです。
或る日のこと、 そのうち２匹が私達の屋敷の周りをうろついていました。 あたかも偵察兵が攻撃目標の地形を調査しているみたいでした。
私が危険を感じ、 用心としてウサギ小屋の隙間などをふさいだりしました。
或る嵐の夜のこと、 外で犬たちの吠え声やうなり声を聞き とうとう彼らが襲ってきたのを知りました。 しかし、 私も 家族たちも何もできませんでした。
嵐の夜にたくさんの犬達がうなり声を挙げているほど怖いものはありません。
翌朝、 小屋はめちゃめちゃでした。 私の大事なウサギ達は全滅でした。
後日のこと、 私達はそのリーダーである 古強者の牝犬 を捕まえました。 そして死罪の代わりに 飼うことにしたのです。
その罪人は 我々の屋敷の素晴らしい番犬になったのは皮肉でした。 彼女は自分と仲間達がウサギ小屋に行った悪事を償うように尽くしてくれたのです。
