- - - - Why I perfer dogs to cats. - -
I like both dogs and cats. But if I have to make a preference, it is dogs for the
following reasons.
In past cats played a big role to get rid of rats. But recently because of delicious
meals we provide, this duty seems to have gotten out of their mind. Nowadays, they are
nothing but pet animals which have rather capricious nature.
On the other hand, dogs have not forgot to make contribution to human life even in this
age of science. They are still excellent guards of our houses. And they still paly great
roles in some specific fields, as drug detecters, shephards, seeing-eye-dogs.
This is because they are intellectual enough to realize that they need to contribute to
human life so that they could survive in this world.
Furthermore, they are rare animals which have a sense of duty, a delight to work, loyalty,
whereas cats have few of these.
Because of the reasons I have mentioned, I prefer dogs to cats.

犬と猫・・・どちらが？
私は犬と猫のどちらも好きです。 しかし、どちらか一つだけを選べ、と言われたら犬です。 理由は次の通り。
過去には猫にはネズミをやっつけるという大きな役割がありました。 だが最近では我々が与える
おいしい餌の故に彼らは役割を忘れてしまっています。 今日ではちょっとわがままなペットに成り
下がってしまっています。
一方、犬はといえば科学が進んだ今でも人間に貢献するという役割を忘れてはいません。 彼らは今なお
有能な番犬です。 そして麻薬探知犬とか羊追いとか盲導犬など特殊な役割を担っています。
というのは人間に貢献しなければこの世で生きてはいけないと良く分かっている賢さがあるからです。
更に義務感とか 仕事をする喜びとか 忠誠さとかをもった珍しい生き物です。猫にはそうしたものが欠けています。
というような理由で猫より犬のほうが好きです。
